How to Set Up Letter to Clipart Feature

Customall now offers a Letter to Clipart feature. This lets you turn each character in a name or word into a unique clipart style that you choose.

The article below will guide you through the setup process for the Letter to Clipart feature:

Step 1: Add a Text Layer

The characters in this text layer will be converted into cliparts.

  • Go to Artwork editor → Click on the Add Text button.

  • Fill in the text details such as label, help text, placeholder, font, color, and more if needed.

  • To allow text input only, tick the Alphabet only option.

Step 2: Add the Letter to Clipart Layer

  1. Click on the + icon → Select Letter to Clipart

  1. On the right side of the screen, configure the layer settings:

  • Choose category: Select the clipart category that contains alphabet or number images.

Customall will use the clipart name to match the letter, so you must name each clipart exactly as the character it represents (e.g., A, B, C... 0, 1, 2...).

  • Clipart Preview: Shows all cliparts in the selected category.
  • Select text layer: Choose the text layer you created in Step 1. Each character in that text will be replaced with a matching clipart.
  • Text index: Enter the position of the character to match (e.g., 1 = first character, 2 = second character, etc.).

If your customer can enter 5 characters, you need to add 5 Letter to Clipart layers (one for each character), and each one will have the text index from 1 to 5.

After selecting the text layer and entering the text index, you will see a preview showing which character this layer will be linked to:

  • Apply to all templates

Enable Letter to Clipart layer settings from one template to be applied to other templates with the same layer ID within the artwork.

Step 3: (Optional) Hide the Text Layer

You may want to hide the original text layer so it does not show on the mockup or print file. There are two ways to do this:

  • Option 1: Click the text layer → In the right-side menu, go to Advanced Settings → Check both "Exclude from mockup" and "Exclude from print file".

  • Option 2: Move the text layer outside of the design area.

On the storefront, the text will change automatically to clipart when customers enter their name.
